Notes / History Eagle House was built in 1617 for Robert Bell, a wealthy London Merchant and co-founder of the East India Company.

In 1991, archaeologists from the Museum of London managed to uncover the remains of the original Jacobean garden. Spanning 20 metres, the rectangular garden was divided into sections by a central path and two diagonal walkways, each containing a round garden bed. The remains of a raised terrace were also found to the north of the garden.

Excavation work gave archaeologists the chance to study a horticultural style which had only previously been known through contemporary books and pictures
