Notes / History Henry was born 1821. He was a cleric who spent eight years in the Australian bush when he was a young man. He wrote a journal based on his experiences. Henry was education at Eton. His older brother was a Colonel in the army and fought in the Crimea. His younger brother, Arthur, was a cricketer who wrote Scores and Biographies. Henry was ordained in 1853 and the age of 32 and was appointed Vicar of Wimbledon shortly after his marriage to Emma Powell. Henry lived for the Parish and only left Wimbledon in August for holidays. He died in 102 after suffering from Pneumonia. The editor of The Wimbledon News stated that “the Vicar had been identified with the parish for so long that it is difficult to imagine Wimbledon without his kindly presence.” This was an opinion that was shared among the members of the parish.
