Notes / History Gravel digging on the Common resulted in a number of hollowed areas which later formed ponds.

The example shown here became a natural swimming pool and was a popular attraction during the summer months. Unfortunately a number of children fell in and drowned.

Tyres were used to fence round the edges of the water but its usage decreased following the opening of Mitcham Public Baths in 1931.
