Notes / History Patriotic fervour and welfare concerns led to many religious organisations to compete for the honour of providing entertainment and moral guidance to the troops.

However it was the non-sectarian “Young Men’s Christian Association” which proved the most enduring. In addition to the Camp Hut clubs, rooms were available at the YMCA in Worple Road and the Victoria Institue
