The 1960’s was a period of transformation and this was reflected in the world of libraries. In Merton, the formation of a unified borough and changing public demands led to new initiatives. (The service headquarters at this time was at Merton Cottage, Merton Park) The school Library service was formed in 1965, and the mobile library went on the road in 1969 and in the same year, the first record library was opened at Morden.
