Notes / History NALGO stands for the National Association of Local Government Officers, and was founded in 1905. The union rapidly grew (and had become the largest British union by the late 1970s); at the time of this dinner, nationwide membership would have numbered around 100,000, though obviously the Wimbledon branch represented only a fraction of that total.
