Notes / History Seven Islands Pond is the largest and best known of the ponds on the Common.

It is in the middle of Mitcham Common and was created in the early 1900’s when excavations left by gravel diggers often formed deep pools and hillocks which were eventually levelled and trimmed into shape.

Seven Islands Pond was deepened in the inter-war years so that it could be used for swimming and boating and became very popular with Mitcham children.
