Notes / History This stretch of the Wandle runs through the London Borough of Sutton where Windmill Lane crosses the Croydon Road into Beddington Lane. Mills lined the river here from medieval times and records show that the Beddington Mill was used for grinding corn in the seventeenth century.

By the time this picture was taken in the mid nineteen-forties there were no working mills left on the river at Beddington.

The waterbeds, which flourished in the early part of the century, had all gone by the 1930s.
