| Notes / History | Cricket match Mitcham v Wimbledon on the 2nd May 1959. Mitcham batsman Dennis Catlin and Brian Ward heading for the crease. Ward played one of his first local matches at the age of 15 but came to public attention through his service with the Wednesday XI. He scored 619 runs in just 16 innings and regularly topped the team batting averages. His skill led him to transfer to the Saturday 1st XI and he played for the Mitcham club side from the late 1950s through to his retirement in 1974. He made more than 50 centuries for the Mitcham XI and in each of nine seasons, scored more than one thousand runs. |
