Notes / History A claim has been made for Mitcham as being the oldest continuously working station site in the world, the Surrey Iron railway having been in use here from 1803.

This station was opened for the Wimbledon to Croydon Railway in 1856. The scene is very much changed today, many old houses have been pulled down and replaced by houses and shops. The road has been widened and its surface - note the picture - very considerably improved. The station is now a listed building and has been converted to offices.

The horse and cart is outside the Crown Inn.
