| Notes / History | The Wimbledon to Croydon rail line opened in 1855 and had a dramatic impact on the locality. The area at the base of Wimbledon Hill developed rapidly, with new streets, houses and shops built to meet the needs of a growing population. Local people were able to commute between London and Surrey with relative ease. |
