For the last time, people in Mitcham and Tooting hears the quiet hiss of trolley-buses nosing their way down London Road and out across the common to West Croydon on Tuesday, 19-7-1960. The last trolley ran north from Croydon at 11-19 pm. On Wednesday the 24 years old electric "silent service" was replaced by no. 220 diesel service, which uses the new 64 seater Routemaster buses.
