Notes / History This type of hollow post mill is more commonly found in Holland. The shaft driving the grinding mechanism passes through the hollowed out core of the main supported post. The upper part of the mill was turned into the wind by specially geared fantail and the shuttered sails could be opened and shut by pulling a chain at the rear.
The moving sails worked a series of internal wheels which powered the corn grinding mechanism. The resulting flour then flowed into sacks and was ready for transporting to market.
