Windrush Day 2020.
Posted on 18th Jun 2020 by Sarah Gould
Monday 22 June is Windrush Day, a nationwide event to celebrate and commemorate nearly half a million people who moved from the Caribbean to Britain between 1948 and 1970. They and their descendants have made a major contribution to the social, economic, political and cultural heritage of this country - today many are at the forefront of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, helping to save lives and keep vital services going.
Although the pandemic has forced the cancellation of public events to mark Windrush Day, Merton Heritage Service has produced these online resources, to help you to celebrate the Windrush Generation and our borough's Caribbean community.
We have brought together displays, music, film, reminiscence material and even Caribbean recipes to for an online celebration of Windrush Day.
