Picturing Modern Merton.

We are delighted to announce that Merton Heritage Service has been awarded one of the prestigious Townsweb Archiving Ltd. Digitisation grants. Together with Corinthians Football Club and Liverpool Cathedral, Merton Heritage Service will receive a grant to support project work in 2021.

As part of our project, Picturing Modern Merton, we will be digitising a large volume of images from 1945 onwards. These range from aerial surveys and 35mm slides, to Press Office photos of incidents and events in Merton from 1945 to the present day.

These images will be added to the Merton Memories website and will also be used to create displays, school resources, heritage trails and materials for therapeutic reminiscence to support people living with dementia. We hope that they will help to create a more comprehensive picture of our modern borough, triggering memories and encouraging local residents to share their own photos and stories of life in Merton.
