Notes / History | Charabanc outing from the Gorringe Park Hotel. During the interwar period, it become increasingly common for local pubs to organise annual outings for their patrons. Foreign holidays were still beyond the means of ordinary people and the concept of a lengthy annual holiday was unknown. Instead, many local people would have focussed their attention on day trips to coastal towns such as Brighton and Littlehampton. The Gorringe Park Hotel was on London Road, not far from Tooting railway station. Named after the Gorringe Park estate, the hotel building has been more recently known as "The Gorringe" at 29 London Road, Tooting. |
