| Notes / History | Old Poplars Boarding School was located in a weather boarded house in Upper Mitcham and faced Figges Marsh. It was a boys’ school throughout the Victorian period and a large number of the wealthier families in Mitcham sent their sons to receive their education. The building was likely demolished in the mid-1880s, due to an outbreak of scarlet fever. The site where the school was located is now called Poplar Avenue, and the houses stand where the school once did. |
