Notes / History | Candy-floss has always been a firm fairground favourite. Many modern fairs sell a coloured pre-packed version. However, this bears no comparison to the traditional spun sugar confection twisted onto a cardboard cone whilst still hot. Notice the lightweight bonnets worn by the two girls. During the summer months many mothers and grandmothers were kept busy making sun hats for local youngsters. These examples were fashioned from printed fabric but others were made from wool, knitted or crocheted into a light pattern. |
