Notes / History | Tibbet’s Corner, as a name, is most likely a corruption / derivation of the family name of the gate-keeper to the Spencer estate – Robert Tebbutt who resided here from the early 1800s. The picture shows a horse/cattle trough - these were essential for preparing the horses before embarking on the long journey to Portsmouth. Also seen in the centre of this image is the ubiquitous London policeman or ‘bobby’. |
