Notes / History | Relaxing with baby on Commonside West, near the junction with "Cold Blows". This type of close-fitting bodice with its mutton sleeves was popular during the 1890s. It was worn over a tightly laced corset, designed to create a flatteringly slim waist, while lifting the bust. By this stage the broad crinoline skirt had been replaced by a straight, naturally flowing skirt worn over a loose petticoat and bloomers. |
