Notes / History | This path from the Golf House to Beddington Lane runs approximately parallel to the railway. Land to the south of Croydon Road became a golf course in the 1890s. Before the advent of road networks and public transport, pathways such as this would have played a vital part in linking different communities. Most people would have travelled on foot and livestock may also have been herded along these routes. Sadly a number of the old footpaths on the Common, including a pretty woodland walk, were destroyed as a result of controlled waste-tipping by Mitcham Borough Council during the late 1950s. |
