Notes / History | Arthur John William McIntyre, known as A.J. McIntyre (b.1918) was an English cricketer with a famously safe pair of hands. As the wicket-keeper he was an integral part of the Surrey side that won the County Championship in every season from 1952 to 1958 inclusive. He made his first-class cricket debut for Surrey in 1938. Originally a versatile all-rounder, he was eventually tasked exclusively with keeping wicket. He also played in three Test matches for England during the 1950s. This photo was obtained from The Cricketers Public House when it was closed in 2010, and it was captured on one of the occasions that McIntyre visited Mitcham Cricket Club. |
