Notes / History | Officers from Mitcham Police Station proudly display their splendid collection of sports trophies. Like many local forces the police have fielded teams in a variety of sports and activities, from cricket and football to cross country running and dog handling. Notice the “W” badge on the uniform epaulettes; this represents the area code for the Clapham division of the Metropolitan Police which controlled the Mitcham force between 1865 and 1965. Mitcham Police Station is now an outpost for the Wimbledon force which requires uniformed officers to wear the “VW” divisional badge. |
