Notes / History | This photograph of a footbridge over the Wandle was taken at Watermeads, the wetland area immediately upstream of Mitcham Bridge. It is undated but the clothing of the young lady suggests that it was probably taken in the 1920s. Watermeads was given to the National Trust in 1913 and has subsequently become a nature reserve. It was one of the first properties to be acquired by the Trust at the inspiration of social reformer Octavia Hill, who was one of the Trust’s founders. |
