Notes / History This striking curved building construction by Bernard Sunley & Sons in1960, was built on the former site of the mock Tudor style Crown Pub, which can be seen in the foreground, prior to its demolition. Crown House originally housed commercial space and a postal sorting office. Caters supermarket was added to the forecourt area soon afterwards.
Notice the old police call-box, near right - these blue phone structures were once a common sight on British streets.

Merton council transferred the majority of its departmental offices to Crown House in 1985. The building became a fully functioning Civic Centre in 1990, following construction of a new council chamber, cafe and library extension on the former supermarket plot.
