Notes / History | The Merton Park estate was created under the auspices of property developer John Innes and his City of London Real Property Company. Most of the local roads were laid out between 1870 and 1904. Innes employed two eminent architects, Henry Quartermain and Sydney Brocklesby, to design the fine Arts and Crafts properties for which the area is renowned. Much of Dorset Road dates from the early 1870s, but there were also later additions during the 1880s and early 1900s. Many of the houses in the section near Morden Road were constructed during the 1920s. |
