Notes / History | Cyclists on the Causeway bordering Cricket Green, Mitcham, c.1928. Bicycles still outnumbered motor vehicles two to one during the interwar years and were a common method for travelling to work. During the 1930s cycling also became a popular sporting pastime, particularly amongst the young. Clubs were formed and groups would tour the country lanes, stopping off at special cafes and guest houses designed to cater for the cycling fraternity. |
