| Notes / History | This picture is one from the local paper showing the distress caused by poorly kept roads. Century Road was deemed the worst and the residents of the fourteen houses on the street handed in a petition to the borough council. The council became responsible for the road in 1960 and therefore its upkeep also. Shortly after the Council had received the petition the buildings were demolished to make way for a section of the Phipps Bridge Estate. |
