Notes / History | Rapid urbanization took place in the early 19th century with the expansion of Streatham Railway, which in sequence resulted that, to the south of Streatham Road as well as the Mitcham North side, more housing and roads were build connecting Bridge Fields, Yorkshire Fileds of Biggin Farm transforming Streatham and Mitcham from rural to urban areas of the day. During 1906-1908 temporary road were laid, where residents had to repair the roads themselves over the weekends. |
