Notes / History | The Causeway, (now better known as Cricket Green). This early photograph shows the older rear section of the King’s Head, far right, with a small pantiled smithy to its left. During the 1880s, this tiny property was also home to “Leech, the barber”. This section of the Green was prone to flooding, partly due to the water-flow from nearby ditch. The roadway was raised slightly to avoid the boggy ground on either side so gained the title “Causeway”. |
