Notes / History | Collbran's Corner showing Collbran's Butcher's shop next to the "Old King's Arms" and Burton's shop. The pub was rebuilt in 1899 - 1900 as the King's Arms. The old village water pump is seen in foreground. This spot was sometimes called "Lazy Corner due to the "loafers" who gathered there to rest and pass the time of day. In the late 19th century the pump was replaced by Mitcham clock tower, paid for by public subscription and erected to mark Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee |
