| Notes / History | The "Crooked Billet" pub is just out of sight next to the "Hand in Hand". The latter establishment first opened during the 1850s as a bakery. Local residents were able to cook their mid-day meal in its giant oven, at a fee of two pence per customer. During the 1870s the proprietor, Mrs Holland, applied for a beer retailer's license and the premises became better known as a pub. |
