Notes / History | The stream, shown here, flowed into the Wandle at Deeds Mill. This was an 18th century flour mill converted to house the Eagle Leathher Works of John S Deed & Sons in 1884. The firm produced a variety of fine light coloured leathers, including chamois leather, which was laid out to dry in the adjoining meadows. The waters of the Wandle were particularly suited to dressing leather and Deeds Mill was just one of several 'skinning mills' operating along the river. |
