| Notes / History | At Wimbledon Camp, the YMCA offered servicemen a range of comforts, including books and newspapers, a card table, snooker, gramophone music and a varied entertainment programme. Pictured here is the canteen where the ladies of the Church Army prepared a selection of home cooked food. Given the extent of wartime food shortages, they amasses a fine selection of tinned and preserved foods. Notice the old wind-up gramophone on the counter. |
