Notes / History Situated to the south of Willow Lane, the mill stands on an artificial island, created by diverting the River Wandle to form a mill pond.
It was initially a flour-mill, but was converted to leather processing by John Deed and went by the name of Eagle Leather Works. The quality of the Wandle water was held to be specially suitable to leather dressing, and several of these ‘skinning mills’ were to be found upstream. The Skinners Arms, on the main road to Beddington, was the workers’ local pub.
