Morden Underground Station had changed in appearance by the 1970s. The offices (now known as Apollo and Athena House) were added to the top of the building during the 1960s. Roadworks were also altering the layout of the nearby bus terminus, with more stops being installed, allowing passengers to queue for different services.

By now Morden had a thriving shopping centre. Local residents could buy everything they needed, from food and clothing, to electrical goods, toys, DIY and decorating materials, records and even cars. In 1961 Caters had also opened the first local supermarket on the former site of the Crown pub.

Crown House (now Merton Civic Centre) held a range of commercial space and a Royal Mail sorting office.

Morden's population was also far more diverse, boosted by immigrants from the Caribbean, India and Pakistan, who played a vital part in the NHS and London Transport, as well as working in local industry, retail and the catering sector.
