Notes / History | An inn bearing this name appears to have occupied this site for some 400 years. For much of the 17th and 18th centuries it was occupied by the Smythe family. It was rebuilt in1899 when the road was widened. In 1978 it was damaged by fire and temporarily closed. The pub was acquired by J.D. Weatherspoon in 1990. In 1991 it was renamed The White Lion of Mortimer after a successful Weatherspoon pub in North London. |
