Notes / History | An inn bearing this name appears to have occupied this site for some 400 years. For much of the 17th and 18th centuries it was occupied by the Smythe family. The original building pre-dated the neighbouring Kings Head by about 10 years. The pub was rebuilt in1899 when the road was widened. In 1978 it was badly damaged by fire and temporarily closed. It was acquired in 1990 by J.D. Weatherspoon who renamed it The White Lion of Mortimer in 1991. |
