Notes / History | Mr. Roland Wilson had taken over the Merton Granges estates in 1624 and lived until 1654. He was a citizen and vintner of London and the first of many local residents of this period to leave bequests for local charitable purposes. He bequeathed 12/- (60p now) a year for the use of the poor. His daughter’s husband, Samuel Crispe, who held the estates after him, built the almshouses in Kingston Road (no.70) near the site of the Manor Club. |
