Notes / History | During its lengthy history, this striking property has been home to some notable people including Henry Dundas, Viscount Melville (1785-1806); Maharajah Duleep Singh, the deposed leader of the Punjab (1854). Ownership passed to the local authority during the 1960s and the property was used as an Old People’s Home. During the 1980s it was converted for use as London’s first “country house hotel”. |
