Notes / History The old manor house, Figges Marsh was located adjacent to the Swan Inn. The estate that the manor house was situated had a long history and was at one time was under the ownership of the Whitney family who were associated with
Queen Elizabeth I. They retained the manor of Biggin and Tamworth in which the house sat until 1603. Following the English Civil War it was acquired by John Manship. His son, also John, sold the manor and family estate to James Moore proprietor of the firm
Potter and Moore in 1804. The estate itself was extensive, how large is unclear. Lordship of the manor became extinct in the 1920’s.
