| Notes / History | Eagle House was built in 1617 for Robert Bell, a London Merchant and co-founder of the East India Company, a vast and powerful trading organisation with its own military support. The house was of a sturdy construction with brick walls nearly two feet thick. Much of the lower building was reinforced with stone and strong oak timbers. There was a finely panelled hall and many of the rooms have ornately decorated plasterwork ceilings. Since 1988, the building has belonged to the Al Furqan Islamic Heritage Foundation, which has funded painstaking restoration of the building including the preservation of many period features. |
