| Notes / History | The original Bath Tavern was demolished, and the one pictured here was built as part of the Phipps Bridge Estate in the 1960s. It was opened in early February 1968, when the Mitcham News and Mercury referred to licensee John Cawdery and his wife, Elizabeth, serving pints of beer to Copes Taverns director, Mr. P E Johnson and other Charrington brewery officials, as the pub was opened to the public. The Tavern was finally boarded up in the 1990s, following a shooting. Plice were called to the scene and all the customers were arrested but refused to talk about the incident. "Everyone just happened to be in the toilet - all together at the same time" said one detective. In 1996 the building was converted into a doctor's surgery. |
