Notes / History | Making tost is simple enough, but poaching an egg requires more skill. Just look at the concentration on this budding chef's face. As working patterns changed and more women undertook paid work outside the home, it became more important for children of both sexes to learn the basics of cookery. Domestic science lessons assumed a new importance, as mothers had less time and in some cases, less inclination to teach kitchen skills at home. |
