Notes / History | Amongst those visiting the annual National Rifle Association Championships, were the pillars of British society, from politicians and military leaders to the Royal family and members of the nobility. This sketch from the mid 19th century shows Prince Albert, Consort of Queen Victoria (picture left) accompanied by the Duke of Wellington (then British Prime Minister). The Royal party had been reviewing the troops on Wimbledon Common. |
