Notes / History | Visit to Hengelo, Holland by a delegation of sportsmen and women from Mitcham, to promote links between Mitcham and their adopted dutch town. The Burgomaster, Dr. J.A.H. Van der Dussin gives the Speech of Welcome. He spoke of the historical link and friendship between the two nations, and their common suffering. He also told of the events a year before, when English soldiers from the Hampshire Regiment brought freedom to the town, along with white bread, chocolate and cigarettes. |
