Notes / History Backs of houses in Belgrave Road which were devastated by the explosion at the chemical works to the rear of the road. The explosion occurred when 200-300 gallons of methylated spirits boiled over, flooded some boilers and then ignited.

Twenty three people were injured including four of the seven plant workers. The only fatality was twelve year old Frederick Addaway who was fatally injured by falling debris in his bedroom in Belgrave Road.
