Notes / History | Situated in front of the “Kings Arms”, picture right, was Biddall’s Exhibition booth. A regular attraction at the fair this stand, with its finely decorated stage panels, combined music, drama and film. Biddall’s bioscope was an early form of movie show – moving pictures were still a relatively new invention and first appeared in this country in 1896. Mitcham was yet to have its own “picture palace” and the bioscope shows gave many local residents their first experience of cinema. |
