Notes / History | Traditionally one of the largest fairs in the south of England, the Mitcham fair attracted visitors from far and wide. It is customary for the local mayor to hold aloft a golden key to mark the opening. The ancient wooden key, decorated with gold paint, is thought to date from the late 19th or early 20th century and remains in the care of the Showman’s Guild. |
