Notes / History | Situated between Tibbett's Corner and Roehampton Lane, this is one of the largest expanses of water on the Common. It was formed during the Victorian era, when a local stream was dammed to form an artificial lake. With its picturesque surroundings, the margins of Kingsmere became a popular spot site for picnics and walking. Notice the lady, far left, with a pushchair - she may be the mother of the girl pictured, or a children's nanny, employed by a wealthy local household. |
